ADVENT: A REVELATION Day 7

“Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.”

MATTHEW 1:24-25 NKJV

We often focus on Mary being chosen to bring forth the Son of God, Savior of the World. But Joseph was chosen too.

Not every man has the character and the commitment to honoring the Lord’s command. That with just a dream he’d not only commit to cover a woman in this predicament—a holy one, but a predicament nonetheless.

But would also hold off on enjoying her as his wife out of respect for what the Lord was doing in her.

That kind of sacrifice and self-control does not mark our culture, but it should be the mark of every believer.

Delaying gratification in order to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Because this wasn’t just any Child. He would be born King of Kings.

And Joseph recognized the honor of being a role player, not the main character, in this revelation of God.

Even naming the Christ Child as if He were Joseph’s biological son. And by that, committing to protect and raise Jesus as if He were.

May the honor of witnessing the Lord in a new way cause us to position our hearts with such humility.
