Lord, who are we that You are mindful of us?
You are the eternal God unfolding your eternal plan and You invite us mere mortals to join You. But your ways are not our ways and we often don’t recognize your activity.
And in these days of injustice, we see so much suffering around the world and around our tables and if we’re honest…
It looks like you’re moving too slow.
We hear of senseless murders and countless kidnappings. We’ve seen or experienced the terror caused by broken hearts and abusive hands. And we want to fix this messy world; we want to stop the pain, but we can’t.
These are God-sized problems only You can solve.
So, we look for You. We ask what are You going to do about it and we’re met with silence. Slow and silent, Lord? That’s too much to take.
We want justice and we expect it loud and forceful. We forget that’s not your style.
Like Elijah learned, you’re not in the wind or the earthquake or the fire. You’re in the gentle whispers strong enough to break bone. You move with stealth and skill so swift.
We don’t see what you’re doing till you’ve already done it.
So even when we look for You in every direction and don’t see a trace. We can say, like Job, You know the way that we take. You know our set times and appointed places. There is nothing that escapes your eye or your reach.
You’re a just God and this is a fallen world.
And though You’re working even our tragedies together for our good, You never promised we’d see You at work—in real time. So, we praise You for the evidence we can look back on—the sense you’ve made of past sorrows.
And if You did it before, You can do it again. Great and mighty is our God! It’s in your name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Prayer inspired by Job 23:10.
“I have no words right now.”
We’ve all been there. Life hands you a problem you can’t even put into words, much less solve. And whether you’re a longtime believer who’s discouraged, you’re new to faith in Christ or you’re wondering what this “Jesus stuff” is all about, talking with God about what you’re facing feels so far out of reach.
What if there were a way to making talking to God easier?
You may not know what to say or you may not want to pray. But if you’re overwhelmed, speechless, and confused about what to do next, Jesus wants to help you.
Got A Minute to Pray is a collection of 60 Bible-based prayers for today’s challenges like worry, anxiety, and depression.
