Hi there!
Well, right off you see, I’m a purple girl. Do I like everything in purple? Oh, no, but I love how I look in purple. And I have a thing for purple accessories. Don’t get me started on purple ink pens!
And I have a knack for calling out what everyone is trying to ignore, but I do it in the wittiest way possible. Promise.
CANDID
Mainly because I’m a New Yorker, from The Bronx to be exact, but also because I’m wired that way. So, I’m not the friend who’d let you walk around with lipstick on your teeth or who’d silently watch you make the same choices that hurt you every time. You deserve better.
COMPASSIONATE
Now, what’s a New Yorker without an immigrant story? I’m the proud daughter of West Indian immigrants who both pushed me to excel and pushed me away emotionally. I don’t think they meant to push me away. They did the best they knew, but it still scarred me.
I came through it, a complicated blend of a Teflon tough exterior with a compassionate center. The tough exterior was the mask I lived behind—therapy helped me drop that suffocating thing. And compassion drove little Vanessa to a career where she could ease kids’ pain.
So, as a pediatrician, I loved educating and empowering the mothers who spent a lot more time influencing their kids than I could.
My favorite patient age? As a baby whisperer, I’d have to say children under age two. But shhh, don’t tell my kids. They’re much older than two!
They’re also not my patients, so I guess you can tell them.
CONSTRUCTIVE
You may be like me, and didn’t grow up seen, known, and loved as you needed. And now that you’re grown, you struggle to hear and be heard and to show up with the love and intention you lacked as a child.
Your relationships with one or both of your parents are not great. And if you’re a mom, you’re challenged with how to give what you didn’t receive.
I know all about that. And you’re my kind of girl to work with.
I don’t have it all together. But I’ll show you how to overcome the struggle with Bible-based principles I treasure.
